Simple DDNS Updater v1.1.4 Released – Security Upgrades, Rebrand & Infrastructure Improvements

We are excited to announce the official release of Simple DDNS Updater version 1.1.4!

In addition to giving our community an early preview of our upcoming brand refresh, version 1.1.4 introduces essential security updates, performance stability fixes, and dedicated backend infrastructure upgrades.

• Visual Rebrand Preview: Refreshed interface featuring updated brand typography, new application icons, and official logos.
• System Tray Integration: Minimize the app to run quietly in the background without cluttering your taskbar.
• Enhanced Update Security: Integrated mandatory SHA-256 checksum verification and real-time progress indicators during auto-updates.
• Config Self-Healing: Automatic repair for config.ini files ensures missing variables no longer cause application crashes.
• Updated HWID Generator: Switched to a custom Windows-derived Hardware ID generator to resolve launch crashes on modern Windows 11 builds.
• Dedicated Backend Infrastructure: Deployed a dedicated v1.1.4+ backend server featuring an automated 1-hour session expiration to clear stale records following unexpected system crashes.

Fixes & Performance Improvements

• Multi-Device NAT Fix: Rewrote verification logic to eliminate false IP collisions for multiple devices sharing a public network or CGNAT.
• Startup DNS Freeze Patch: Non-blocking asynchronous DNS lookups prevent offline or unresolvable domains from hanging the app during boot.
• Admin Privilege Fix: Resolved an issue where auto-updates required manually restarting the application as Administrator.
• Config Persistence: Fixed an issue where settings failed to persist unless an active license key was present.

Upcoming Licensing Roadmap (v1.1.5+)

Standalone runtime HWID tracking is being phased out completely. Starting in version 1.1.5, HWID verification will be integrated directly into our core Licensing Server to manage seat activations per license key (1 license per installation). This structural update will permanently eliminate uninstaller, abrupt shutdown, and session lock conflicts. Full details will be shared closer to the v1.1.5 release.

Critical Security & Legacy Deprecation Notice

Versions prior to v1.1.4 lack mandatory checksum verification and utilize legacy server endpoints. To ensure platform-wide security and stability, we are retiring legacy infrastructure:

• Current Status: Version 1.1.3 is currently designated as unstable to allow users time to evaluate and transition to the latest build.
• September 30th: The legacy update server for v1.1.3 will be permanently shut down. Automatic background updates for older builds will cease after this date, requiring a manual download.

Action Required: To maintain uninterrupted service and system integrity, all users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to version 1.1.4 or higher today via the in-app updater or better still download the latest version from our website.
